Biography

Guitarist Johan Fostier stands out for his committed, lyrical and infinitely colourful playing, where a deep love of song and sound reigns and challenges. He regularly accompanies sopranos and other mezzos, while his training as a singer has led him to join the vocal quintet Wappa Tonic and various vocal ensembles.

The projection of a powerful and generous musical discourse, made possible by a body-instrument relationship always in search of harmony and freedom, emerges from his playing.

Trained as a linguist, attached to words, he has also collaborated with several actors and directors, which has diversified and enriched his relationship with the stage.

Finally, his sovereign technique, always in connection with music, has allowed him to win several International Competitions (including the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America). He gives concerts all over the world as a soloist, chamber musician (Take Four Guitar Quartet, Almaviva Duo, Esencias Duo with mandolin...) and as a soloist (Take Four Guitar Quartet, Almaviva Duo, Esencias Duo with mandolin...). ) and in the great guitar concertos; his tours have taken him to Russia, the United States, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Morocco, Estonia, Afghanistan... He studied in Brussels (Guy van Waas), Paris (Alberto Ponce) and Switzerland (Joaquim Freire, Susanne Mebes).

He currently teaches classical guitar at the Conservatories of Ghent (Hogent) and Tilburg (Fontys).
