Biography

Yiang Zhang, born in 2001, embarked on his musical journey at the age of 3, began learning the piano, and delving into the world of classical guitar under the guidance of teacher Jianwei Xu at the tender age of 7. His musical prowess led him to the prestigious Middle School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music in 2013, where he flourished under the mentorship of teachers Tuo Xu and Professor Chen Zhi.

In 2012, accolades began pouring in as he clinched the first position in the ensemble category and the third position in the solo category at the 11th Guitar Art Festival and Competition in Zhuhai, China. The year 2015 saw him securing the fourth spot in the youth category at the Shenyang International Guitar Art Festival and Competition. Notably, in 2016, he earned a coveted spot as one of the three students personally selected by the illustrious Spanish Sir and classical guitar maestro Pepe Romero for the "Pepe Romero China Tour," receiving exclusive instruction at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in China.

At the tender age of 16 in 2017, Yiang Zhang demonstrated exceptional talent by gaining admission to the classical guitar program at the esteemed University Mozarteum Salzburg in Austria. Under the tutelage of the revered classical guitar master, Professor Marco Tamayo, he continued to dazzle the musical world. In December 2017, he graced the Austria-China Student Union New Year's Concert, earning praise and encouragement from Mr. Li Xiaosi, the Chinese Ambassador to Austria. Adding to his accolades, he clinched the First place in the youth category at the Southwest German Classical Guitar Competition in April 2018. In December 2019, he was honored with an invitation to participate in a Christmas performance hosted by the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu.

The year 2021 marked a significant chapter in Yiang Zhang career, as he was invited to partake in the 50th-anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations between China and Austria. In 2022, he graduated with distinction, achieving a flawless score in his undergraduate studies. Later that year, he once again triumphed, securing the coveted first position in the professional rankings for admission to the master's program at the Mozarteum.

The accolades continued to pour in for Yiang Zhang in 2023. In April, he won the 1st prize in the open category at the 36th Athens International Guitar Festival. June saw him receiving admission to the University of the Arts Berlin with stellar results, where he continued his advanced studies under the esteemed mentorship of Professor Marco Tamayo. November witnessed further triumphs, with Yiang Zhang clinching third place at the Sanremo International Guitar Art Festival in Italy and second place at the Brussels International Guitar Art Festival in Belgium.

Yiang Zhang is a Savarez Artist and uses Cantiga Premium- Alliance / Blue strings and he is currently performing on a guitar built by luthiers Martinez Lazaro from Spain.
