Biography

In his hometown Merida he began studying electric guitar with teachers Lorenzo Esquivel and in classical guitar with Ricardo Vega and Miguel Uc in the Music Center “José Jacinto Cuevas”. He graduated as a concertist at the Superior School of Music in the National Arts Centre in Mexico City with the teacher Josefina Robles, to further make his master studies with the teacher Alvaro Pierri at the “Université Laval” in Quebec, Canada where he graduated with the highest honors.

He has taken master classes with teachers: Steve Vai, Sylvain Luc, Roland Dyens, Eugenio Toussaint, Sergio Assad, Scott Tennant, Gabriel Hammel, Kenny Bibace, Juan Carlos Laguna, among others.

He has performed in Germany, Argentina, Austria, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, United States, France, Mexico, Puerto Rico and recently Arab Emirates. His multifaceted career has taken him to perform in different festivals of Classical music, Jazz, Rock, World, Rock and Pop in venues such as National Theatre (Costa Rica), Fine Arts (Mexico), Oscar Peterson Hall (Canada), National Auditorium, Metropolitan Theater (Mexico), Dubai’s World Trade Center (Arab Emirates), House of Blues (U.S.A.), to name a few. His repertoire includes programs for classical and electric guitar as soloist, duets, chamber music, orchestras, tango, rock, and original compositions.

He has won several awards, including:
-1st place in the “VII National Guitar Competition, a tribute to Ernesto Cordero” in Taxco, Guerrero, considered the most important guitar competition of Mexico.
-1st place in the “XIV Contest and International Guitar Festival, guitar virtuosity” in Morelia, Michoacan
-2nd place in the “IV International Guitar Competition” in Burgos Spain
-Best international group with TANGO NUEVO, in the TANGO FUSION festival, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
-Winner in the contest of CD of the “Université Laval” in Quebec, Canada.
-State Prize of youth, Yucatan, Mexico.
-Excellence Scholarship artist of ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mexico
-Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture Yucatan and the “Bourse of the Faculte des réussite études supérieures”, Quebec, Canada among other awards and recognitions.

As a teacher, he has been invited to give master classes and as a judge in music competitions at universities and conservatories. He is also a  professor at the “Académie de Musique de Montréal” and now is professor in the department of guitar in “Escuela de bellas artes de la universidad panamericana” in Mexico City.
