Biography

Jens Oppermann was born in Hamburg, Germany 1960. While studying at the Albert-Schweitzer School, he started violin lessons with Prof. Marianne Petersen.
In 1972-74 he won first prizes at the national ”Jugend musiziert”, as well as winning scholarships from the NDR Orchestra and Ritter Trust.
From 1975 onwards Mr. Oppermann won 1st prize at the Colmar chamber-music competition, received a Söring scholarship (to be renewed several years in succession), joined the German National Youth Orchestra, and started violin studies at the Musikhochschule in Hamburg with Prof. Ziolkowsky.

In 1977 Jens Oppermann started working with the Hamburg City Opera Orchestra, continued his studies with Prof. Vlach and Prof. U. Heiberg, and  was awarded the Koerber Prize two years in a row.
In 1980 Mr. Oppermann became a member of the EUYO and took part in master-classes with  Gerard Poulet in Paris.
Soon after, he played with the chamber Orchestra of Europe, and became a founder member of the Auryn Quartet.
