Jorgos Panetsos was born in Athens, Greece. He studied classical guitar at the National Conservatory in Athens under Andres Paleologos and Thrasos Stavrou, and continued his studies under Luise Walker at the Vienna “Musikhochschule”, where he received his diploma with honours. He then participated in master classes with David Russel and Oscar Ghiglia in Siena (Diploma di merito), following this with a doctorate and Habilitation.

Jorgos Panetsos teaches at the "Music and Arts University of the city of Vienna" as well as at the "Konservatorium für Musik und Dramatische Kunst in Wien".

He also taught at the Vienna University Institute for Music Psychology, gave master classes as a guest teacher at the Music Universitity of  Graz, the University of Wisconsin School of Music, the Korea National University of Arts, the “Hochschule” of Aachen, Rostock and Debrecen, the Central Conservatory in Beijing (China) the Bangkok University and the Conservatory of Vigo, as well as at the most important international festivals.
