Biography

After earning a classical double bass medal from the City of Paris (Thierry Barbé), he began his jazz training with Riccardo Del Fra, Pierre Boussaguet, Gildas Boclé, and Joëlle Léandre. In 2014, he met Scott Colley and Larry Grenadier and went on to further his education at Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA).

Convinced that pedagogy and creation are the two lungs of a fertile artistic approach, Clément Landais is currently the assistant director of the CRR Normandie and simultaneously cultivates, with appetite but without haste, a generous, unique, and sensitive artistic personality.

A highly appreciated musician and composer in clubs and festivals (Awa Ly, Pierre Perchaud, Giovanni Mirabassi, Kouyate&Neerman, Florent Gac, Bastien Stil, Laurent Dehors, Philippe Carment), he has been featured for 20 years on numerous productions and phonographic recordings (Electro Deluxe, No Jazz, Chet, La Familia, Gul de Boa, Boule, Marianne Farouche, Amélie Affagard) and provides substantial creative work for theater (David Lescot, Gerard Desarthe, Cécile Bakès, Scali Delpeyrat), cinema (soundtracks), television (soundtracks and live on set), and radio (sound creation on France Culture, live broadcasts on Inter, FIP, and France Musique).

In 2019, he recorded his first album as a leader ("INLAND" on Hypnote Records). He is also a co-founder of the group "2X2" (Origin Records), nominated for the 2019 GRAMMYs. In the same year, Franck Terrier's first album "Keep on Smiling" was released, and the musician also co-produced the second album of the Uptown Jazz Trio, "Jazz in Satie."

In 2022, after the release of his album dedicated to choreographic practices "Danse(s)," it was time to reunite with his childhood friend Phil VERMONT, with whom he co-produced the album "Last Man Alive," directed by Neal Black and released by Dixiefrog in 2024. In 2025, Clément is co-producing the second album of the Franck Terrier Trio, "Aquarius," and is working on the production of an opus on the compositions of guitarist Jean-Baptiste Gaudray.

Clément Landais plays STRUNAL CZ double basses and SAVAREZ strings.
